Who SHOULD Be Apologizing Now?
According to the Harvard Crimson, Viswanathan Should Not Get A Break, Must Apologize..."She is falling hard and fast, and it is probable that a certain amount of blame for this situation may be the result of some misdirection by third parties."
Ah, you're not kidding. Like most news today, the backstory usually has a lag time. We remind our readers that "what doesn't come out in the wash, will come out in the rinse".
So, who's surprised to learn that apparently Kaava was contracted with book packaging company Alloy Entertainment.? Book packaging is not new and is not pretty, to some. But it does crank out the books - especially the young adult books. (NYT here).
Question is, did Viswananthan plagarize? Or was she "given" material from Alloy's people that was, ah, not original? And who's responsible for the due diligence? Like James Frey, our poster boy of plagerism and apologies of 2006, it'll most likely come out in the rinse.
