Rather, CBS, Mapes

Who's Sorry Now?

We're fine with however you come down on Rather/CBS. You think he's a liberal dope - you could be right. You think he's a legend in the news business - you could be right.

The idiot in this story is "Memogate" Mary Mapes...
Mapes, the failed document doctor, seems to us a totally self-centered dope. We heard her interviewed after the incident and she reeked of defensiveness and everything that's wrong with MSM - arrogance, entitlement, etc.

She was interviewed in late 05
In her interview with ABC News chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross, to be broadcast Wednesday morning on "Good Morning America," Mapes says she is unrepentant about her role. "I don't think I committed bad journalism. I really don't," she says.

Here's more about Rather leaving CBS

Many inside CBS feel that Rather triggered his own demise by vigorously defending his flawed 60 Minutes II report in September '04 that questioned President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard, even after the authenticity of the documents used in the piece could not be proved.

Rather later apologized to viewers, but his fate within CBS had been sealed. The only difference: It would take longer for him to leave. Unlike several of his coworkers in the scandal, Rather escaped the noose.
