Who's Apologizing Now?

Mel Gibson, all over the media, for his drunken rant. Here's the "official" statement, courtesy Insider:
Mel's Apology

Actor-director
MEL GIBSON has responded to "The Insider" regarding his arrest early Friday morning in Malibu on suspicion of driving under the influence.

He says: "After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the LA County Sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person. I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said, and I apologize to anyone who I have offended.

"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."

'The Passion of the Christ' director was arrested by county sheriffs at 2:36 a.m. Friday and booked at 4:06 a.m. Gibson was initially pulled over for speeding on Pacific Coast Highway and was given a breathalyzer test. The Sheriff's department told ET they smelled alcohol on the star's breath and that his blood alcohol level was .12. The legal driving limit is .08. He was taken into custody, held on $5,000 bail, cited and released.

Earlier, STEVE WHITMORE, spokesman for Sheriff LEE BACCA and the Department, issued this statement:
"The L.A. County Sheriff's Department investigation into the arrest of Mr. Gibson on suspicion of driving under the influence will be complete and will contain every factual piece of evidence. Nothing will be sanitized. There was absolutely no favoritism shown to this suspect. When this file is presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney, it will contain everything. Nothing will be left out."
