James Brown, Gerald Ford, Saddam

They say death comes in 3's. How weird is this combo? A beloved American music icon, a Republican President that makes us nostalgic for the "true" conservative Republican (one who doesn't believe in far reaching military adventures in other countries, no less); and the execution of the reason we went to war (cough, cough).

Last first: Saddam Hussein. Why is nobody asking the question - Was the real Saddam just executed? After years and years of articles about "Saddam doubles", we're just not convinced it was really "him'. No conspiracy theories, or anything like that, we just need convincing.

Second: Gerald Ford. Boy, what history can do in your FAVOR, no? He was not this beloved good guy during his life. He was portrayed as a bumbler, not qualified for the Presidency, pardoned Nixon, and was beat by Jimmy Carter. But we'll admit we're waxing nostalgic like the rest of you for the "good old days" when you knew what you were getting when you voted Republican. That's not true, these days. Oh, and close the NYSE and the NASDAQ? Wow.

Third: James Brown. Of all, didn't you just love the gold casket and white horse-drawn carriage for singer James Brown. You go, boyfriend. Loved everything about his death - him laid out with his hair-do, looking spiffy. And his funeral - the best show in town!

Think about it - 50 YEARS of influence on millions of people and a whole art form. Somehow, James' death and mourning is the most joyous. Everyone smiles thinking about James Brown. Papa's gotta a brand new bag.
