ST. JOHN'S, N.L. (CP) - A Labrador woman who was stripped of her clothes and left in a jail cell has received an unqualified apology from the Mounties. The 26-year-old Nain woman was arrested last February for allegedly assaulting a police officer. Police claim she was threatening to harm herself, so RCMP brought her to the hospital in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
However, the hospital's secure room was not available so she was returned to the lockup. Fearing she may hurt herself, an officer took the woman's clothes. Sgt. Pete McKay says the woman has been offered an unqualified and unconditional apology for the indignity she experienced in RCMP custody.
