Isn't Copying Stealing?

We feel an "I'm Sorry" coming on..

Uh oh. Are we in for a James Frey moment with publishing darling, Dan Brown? "Dan Brown returned to the witness stand Wednesday and acknowledged "reworking" passages
from an earlier book for his best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code," but he firmly rejected charges that he ripped off key ideas for his conspiracy thriller." What does that mean exactly? Reworking passages from an earlier book....oh, like Holy Blood, Holy Grail? Did you copy the passages? "I'm not crazy about the word 'copied,'" Brown testified. "Copying implies it is identical. It's not identical." (Yahoo here)

The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown has denied claims that he lied about when exactly he first saw a copy of The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail. (bbc here)
