Mayor Apologizes, Mayor Doesn't Apologize

2006 is the Year of the Apology. Turns out, apologizing can be both harder and easier than you might think. In the case of the immigration protest march in Phoenix, the ball has bounced back and forth.

Apologies can be complicated. Immigration reform is even more complicated. Here's the latest on Mayor Phil Gordon's position (AZCentral) :

Mayor says he will not apologize
Some event organizers demanded an apology from the mayor during a Sunday-evening news conference, saying his comments immediately after the protest were insulting and insensitive.

"We authorized no one to ask for an apology and we authorized no one to offer an apology on our behalf," said Gutierrez, a Latino activist and popular talk-radio host, who praised the city and its police department.
