Apologies In Colorado Legislature

Who's Apologizing Now?

The immigration debate has tempers running high. And it's not over yet. We still blame the Righties for pulling this out of the thin air because they've run out of issues to inflame their base. Gay marriage? Boring. Abortion? Getting changed (South Dakota). Iraq? Hopeless, don't bring it up. So, instead of talking about education, healthcare, etc., they pulled the old immigration issue out and got bit in the butt.

Maybe high gas prices will refocus everyone. Immigration is broken because the (mostly rightie) businesses need low wage workers to be competitive. They're happy to get them. The demographics in the US are that we're aging, and we have a 4.7% unemployment rate. That means almost everyone who wants to work is working! We need workers. The businesses found them. Mexicans are rebuilding your neighborhoods and roads. Give it a rest. You love your new remodel? Then button it.

Someone named Wil Schundelman, a citizen in Colorado: He apologized in an email for this statement to a (black) Colorado Representatitive: "You are so lucky lynching and the firing squad for treason aren't available punishments anymore. I'd vote you in, in a heartbeat," the e-mail said. Later... "I apologize for perhaps my poor choice of wording," the email said. The Colorado State Patrol was still investigating the e-mail, Trooper Eric Wynn said. Carroll said the patrol had told him it was unlikely anything would be done because the e-mail did not include a direct threat."

More in the article...It is the second time this year that e-mail has been at the center of a controversy involving a Colorado lawmaker. Rep. Jim Welker, R-Loveland, was criticized for forwarding an e-mail to others that said some black victims of Hurricane Katrina were lazy. He later apologized for not identifying the writer, a conservative black minister.
