Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg apologizes for Beacon

Social networking sites have GOT to figure out how to monetize....and Beacon isn't it. Beacon tells your "friends" what you're buying....and users got pissed. 23 year old Zuckerberg apologizes:

USA TODAY: "We've made a lot of mistakes building this feature, but we've made even more with how we've handled them," Zuckerberg said, adding it took Facebook too long to respond to complaints. "We simply did a bad job with this release, and I apologize for it."

Facebook had no further comment....For the 3-year-old company, the apology was a rare faux pas.

It has exploded in popularity since May, when it started allowing outside software developers to build mini-applications on the site.Once dominated by students, Facebook has grown fivefold since it became open to everyone in September 2006, to 57 million members. In October, Microsoft bought a 1.6% stake in the company in a deal that valued Facebook at $15 billion. Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing has also taken a 0.4% share worth about $60 million.

Facebook uses your profile, and gets snotty about being questioned....

ContactMe.jpgThis morning, we reported on a Facebook employee who allegedly looked up a user's password, logged into her account, and changed her profile picture to a graphic image. When a tipster wrote in to name the employee, I contacted the accused, Jordan Moncharmont, for comment. I wrote, "Jordan -- Please read this and then call me immediately," pasting a link to this morning's story. Facebook's response?

I found in my inbox, not a reply from Moncharmont, but this:

FBwarning.jpg

The "Acknowledge" checkbox struck me as some kind of Chinese Communist Red Guards-style self-confessional, so I refused to check it off.

Here again is my request seeking comment. Perhaps the word "immediately" came across as too demanding? Next time, I'll be gentler in communicating my deadlines.

Sick of Facebook? Try Enemybook

We love this stuff...

Enemybook is an antisocial utility that disconnects you
to the so-called friends around you.

Enemybook is a Facebook app that allows you to manage your enemies as well as your friends. With Enemybook you can add people as facebook enemies, specify why they are your enemies, notify your enemies, see who lists you as an enemy, and even become friends with the enemies of your enemies. Ever wanted to "enemy" somebody instead of friend them? Finally you can. This app remedies the one-sided perspective of Facebook.

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer...

Get Enemybook! (facebook account required)

Bob Corker's Daughter Kissing Girls on Facebook

Who's a complete dope now?

That would be Bob Corker, who put out the "Playboy Bunnie" ad against Harold Ford in Tennessee. Looks like your daughter doesn't have any problem kissing girls, and then posting the pic on Facebook, Bob ! Ha!

Wonkette:

Bob Corker is running for Bill Frist’s Senate seat, and he’s already demonstrating that he can be just as great a politician as the Senator Daktari himself. You see, Senator Frist hasn’t been particularly happy with, well, us for (along with others) publicizing the wacky (but harmless!) exploits of his strapping young sons. Not very happy at all. We even suspect he might be partly responsible for this.

So, after seeing all that, you’d think Mr. Corker might have let his lovely daughter know that she probably shouldn’t let pictures of her making out with chicks and dancing at underwear parties show up on a publicly accessible social networking website. Thankfully for all of you, they never had that talk.
