All kinds of year end wrap ups are playing this video of the ditsy blond Miss TEEN USA from South Carolina when she was asked, "Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?"

Watch here and then read Juan Cole's defense: Although the answer was painful to watch just because Ms. Upton was so obviously stricken at that moment with stage fright, I actually think her answer had some merit...I hope that all U.S. Americans take to heart her values, and find ways to help improve education in this country about international affairs, and ways to help ensure that a whole generation of Iraqis displaced by our war does not grow up illiterate.

We were all over this months ago....and posted about hedge fund manager Seth, his jealous wife Filomena with the "white powder", Seth's gay lover Tiger, and the multiple millions everyones now fighting over....well, here's more in the NYT today and ya'all gotta love this:

ccording to the brothers’ lawsuit, Mrs. Tobias caused her husband “to ingest one or more controlled substances that induced loss of consciousness and capacity to breathe.” They further claimed that she caused him “to enter the swimming pool at their residence after his ingestion of controlled substances and in his stuporous and helpless condition he was asphyxiated and died.” Mr. Tobias’s best friend, Patrick Bransome, said in a statement to police that he had not seen him go in a pool or swim in years. Mr. Bransome declined to comment.

A few weeks later, Mr. Ash called the police and told them that Mrs. Tobias had confessed to him and that he had a tape recording to prove it. Mr. Ash has a past: he has been arrested at least 11 times on charges ranging from larceny to prostitution; He has been called Mr. Madam because of a past connection he says he had to Heidi Fleiss, the Hollywood Madam. Investigators flew to Mr. Ash’s home in San Diego and spent a day interviewing him.

“She confessed to me on tape,” Mr. Ash, said in an interview. “I believe she absolutely did it.” He would not provide the tape, but expressed outrage that the case was not moving more quickly. “I’m the only one standing up for him. Who else in this whole crazy thing is looking out for him?”

The police in Jupiter appeared unimpressed with Mr. Ash’s allegations. “You can take it for what it is worth,” Sergeant Pascarella said.

Now for the OTHER hedge fund manager scandal. Turns out Seth Tobias, found dead in Jupiter, FL, may have been murdered by his wife, Filomena. Or so says Billy Ash, aka, Mr. Madam. Who also says Seth was gay. Wait, it gets better:

Ash says that the Tobiases were fully aware of his past (the whoreing ring, the arrests, the writing of bad checks), and, in fact, welcomed it with open arms. Far from an impediment to his work, Ash’s CV apparently endeared him to Mr. Tobias, who Ash claims was gay, battled drug and alcohol addiction and had a penchant for buying sex. The personal assistant, who also has experience in couple’s counseling, says that the Seth and Filomena had a “volatile relationship,” and calls the marriage “a façade. He was gay. As far as I’m aware, he’s always had boyfriends.” Ash charges that Tobias’s most recent “boyfriend” was an exotic dancer from the local Palm Beach gay club called Cupids. According to Mr. Madam, Tobias’s dalliances with the “boyfriend,” known to friends and clients as “Tiger,” ultimately contributed to Filomena’s murder of her husband.
