Oh jeez. McNulty is getting out of the line of fire of Rove? Sure sounds like it.

Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty said Monday he will resign, becoming the highest-ranking Bush administration casualty in the furor over the firing of U.S. attorneys...

The aides spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly about McNulty's decision. McNulty also irked Gonzales by testifying in February that at least one of the fired prosecutors was ordered to make way for a protege of Karl Rove, President Bush's chief political adviser. Gonzales, who has resisted lawmakers' calls to resign, maintains the firings were proper, and rooted in the prosecurtors' lackluster performances.

NRO According to a congressman's wife who attended a Republican women's luncheon yesterday, Karl Rove explained the rationale behind the president's amnesty/open-borders proposal this way: "I don't want my 17-year-old son to have to pick tomatoes or make beds in Las Vegas."

There should be no need to explain why this is an obscene statement coming from a leader in the party that promotes the virtues of hard work, thrift, and sobriety, a party whose demi-god actually split fence rails as a young man, a party where "respectable Republican cloth coat" once actually meant something. But it does seem to be necessary to explain.

In an amazing betrayal within a family where top political aide Rove is royalty, Bushies have been sneering at his pre-election happy talk that the gop would keep the Senate and take a slight hit in the House, both soon to be run by Democrats. And now we learn that President Bush really believed the GOP was safe, too. On the day before the elections, he asked embattled House gop leader Dennis Hastert to run for speaker again so he could guide the White House's agenda in Congress.

Frist here DFW Some Republicans heaped scorn on Frist, faulting him for fostering runaway federal spending. Late Friday night, House Appropriations Chairman Jerry Lewis, R-Calif., said icily in a speech on the House floor that Congress' failure to pass nine of 11 appropriations bills "should be placed squarely at the feet of the departing [Senate] majority leader." The House passed its version of the bills, but the Senate did not.

Did Bush and Rove produce an INTENTIONAL flop?

Verrrrrry interesting. The premise of this from Attytood is that a Democratic Congress is more favorable to Bush for his final two years than a Republican one....hmmmmmmm....could it be true?

.....Maybe it's just because the Democrats actually won something, but for the last few days, something has just not felt quite right about either Tuesday's election, or the White House's handling of the voting and the aftermath. We have no doubts that a majority of American voters wanted change on Election Day, and they wanted the Democrats to be the agent of that change.

But we've also followed politics -- and the rise of George W. Bush and Karl Rove -- intensely these past six or seven years, and so beginning on Tuesday night, we were increasingly surprised at all the dogs that did not bark in the 2006 election -- dogs that raised quite a ruckus in the last three national elections......

Is Karl Rove even more of an evil genuis than we think? Did he and Bush just produce an election flop...on purpose?

It sounds completely off-the-wall, and before this post is over we'll give some good reasons why they wouldn't do that. But we'll also give you a couple of good reasons why life could be better for the Bush White House and the future presidential ambitions of the GOP with the Dems running Congress.

That would be Karl Rove et al (including GAY K. Mehlman - who'll be stepping down). Articles and quotes like these are proof that the GOP just didn't get it. Corruption matters....mostly because of the hypocracy apparent in the "holier-than-thou" GOP walking all over American citizens in their apparent contempt for the little guy.

What? They thought we weren't paying attention? Rats, all of them. Oh, and that famous "get out the vote" machine? They got out and voted, all right, but for DEMS. Ha!

(CBS/AP) A protégé of White House political guru Karl Rove produced the controversial Republican National Committee ad targeting Tennessee Democratic Senate candidate Rep. Harold Ford Jr., that some have called racist, CBS News has learned. The ad, in which a white woman with blonde hair and bare shoulders looks into the camera and whispers, "Harold, call me," and then winks, was produced by Scott Howell, the former political director for Rove's consulting firm in Texas.

Ralston, who earned $122,000 a year, had been a minor player in the scandal for more than a year, but it was not until her e-mails with the lobbyist were released by the House Government Reform Committee last week that her role became known.

The information supplied by Ralston to Abramoff often involved procedural matters, social events and possible administration appointments, the committee said.

Ralston was the latest victim of the Abramoff scandal. One Republican lawmaker, Ohio Rep. Bob Ney (news, bio, voting record), and several former Republican aides have so far pleaded guilty in the corruption probe.

Should Speaker Hastert Resign?

A reader heard Denny Hastert on the Hannity radio show today saying he "didn't really understand this IM technology, anyway." Jeez. And these guys are in charge. This is right up there with "the Internet is a series of tubes...".

Supposedly, he's fighting for his job. Not so fast. Remember, a good "regime change" invasion-wag-the-dog bombing of Iran wipes all this off the news. And Woodward too.

Karl Rove plays to win. His only job right now is to win the midterms. He is not going to let this wimp, Mark Foley, or Hastert ruin that. Plus, the neo conartists are itching to implement the "New American way of war" (ala Max Boot's thesis).
